The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said on Friday that it would allow new flood insurance policy sales during the partial government shutdown, a reversal of previous course.
“As of this evening, all [National Flood Insurance Program] insurers have been directed to resume normal operations immediately and advised that the program will be considered operational since December 21, 2018 without interruption,” they said in a release.
House Majority Whipe Steve Scalise and Senators Bill Cassidy and Marco Rubio all called on FEMA to reverse its original policy. They originally said that a lapse in appropriations meant that FEMA couldn’t pay private property and casualty insurers without government backing.
